With what currently passes for a "healthy" school lunch many parents would rather send their children out with something homemade. Still, busy moms and dads already have enough on their plates, and coming up with healthy and interesting pack-lunches isn't easy. Add these new fun and tasty ideas from Care.com to your arsenal and you can rest a little easier.
Many kids taste with their eyes. Dressing up a normal vegetable medley to look like a cartoon face can be just the ticket in getting your young one to take a bite. Similarly, foods that double as an activity are appealing. What I love about thees recipes, is that they are easy to make, but are visually appealing for picky eaters. I can already see my darling daughter flying a dragon roll through the air before playfully biting off his tongue. She is also fairly hesitant to try new things, but a fun cookie-cutter sandwich might be just what she needs to give sunflower butter a taste.
I'm pretty lucky. My daughter actually loves sushi. Unfortunately, she only likes it in a very specific way- she has to roll it up herself. It ends up being very messy (she's two), and means I can't easily pack them up in advance. Hopefully having foods like this banana sushi roll will open her up to trying pre-rolled, pre-cut sushi! Other fun ideas I've seen have been cutting melons or cheese blocks into flat pieces before cutting out smaller shapes with cookie cutters. I also make sure to always include either a lettuce leaf or a bed of mixed greens. Although I still haven't gotten her to eat salad, she does always expect to see it as part of her meal.
