There is probably no article of clothing more iconic than the classic pair of American blue jeans. Regardless of where you are in the world, you are almost guaranteed to find dozens of people clad in blue denim pants. Popularized by Levi Strauss in 1853, the first blue jeans were a replacement for the uncomfortable canvas pants gold miners had been wearing during the Gold Rush, as explained in an article from about.com. The denim, a warp-faced twill textile, creates a durable fabric that is additionally more comfortable. Also, the signature indigo dying process results in a wear on the denim that is unique to the owner.

That being said, it's no wonder, blue jeans have become such an intricate part of today's fashion around the world. But despite their long lives, eventually jeans do wear out. Rather than just toss them though, this neat little project gives those handy pockets on the back of your jeans a second life. With a pair of scissors, you can turn an old pair of denim pants into the perfect gardening apron.
